Latin: All boys at Papplewick study Latin in Year 5. The school has its own Beginners' Course, which all boys employ. Barbara Bell's innovative course Minimus is also used, particularly for providing the boys with a cultural framework to their studies. In Years 6 and 7 the potential scholarship candidates work through So You Really Want to Learn Latin books 1-3, whilst the other sets use a combination of the Cambridge Latin Course, Bob Bass' Practice Exercises and the school's own resources. In Year 8, Kristian Waite's Practice CE course is followed by the two Common Entrance sets. The Scholarship form have their own construction and vocabulary booklet. They also use Gradatim for Unseen translation and Comprehension practice and Black's Aids to Scholarship Latin for prose composition.
